Worlds Apart

What Is Worlds Apart?

Worlds Apart is a book-in-progress that I have been writing since 2005. It is my second major writing project, and is one that I am quite proud of. It's a rather complex storyline to write, and I have also had to create not only my own world, but my own mythology and history as well.

It is a story about cause and effect, and of how a simple choice that was made in the distant past can affect the present. It follows the lives of three people as they struggle to unravel the secrets of their past lives, in order to protect their current lives. Set in three different time periods, Worlds Apart is a story of second chances, new beginnings, and of accepting the decisions that were made in the past.

The Places In Worlds Apart

Below is a guide to the locations that are featured in Worlds Apart. The story spans over three seperate time periods and locations, so here is a brief description.

Lanthore

This is where the present day story is set, and it is a large landmass consisting of seven seperate cities that surround a central giant lake. They are: Bywyn, Glassport, Erinesse, Lorgate, Norham, Westerlyn and the deserted Northern Plains. Most of the action is centered around the eastern half of the land, with Eliah from Glassport, Kaydon from Erinesse, and Zakari from Bywyn.

Lanthore is a modern-style land, except for one major difference: large scale industry and petrol powered vehicles have never been invented. They still have modern things such as televisions, radios, surveliance systems etc, but transportation consists of galleons, paddle ferries, horse and cart, or the use of powers.

In Lanthore, everyone is born with one of 4 powers (some people can have a secondary, weaker power as well): Elemental manipulation, form shifting into an animal, telepathy and empathy, or ghost walking. The last one is the ability to leave the world of the living and to travel along the ghost trails in the realm of the dead. This allows a person to seek guidance or information from past relatives, and is a way of dealing with the passing of a loved one. They're never really gone.

Anara

In the ancient language of the gods, Anara means Northern Place, and indeed it is, being located in the Northern Plains area of Lanthore. Anara was an advanced kingdom that was settled by foriegners in the early days of Lanthore's history. Anara flourished as a kingdom for close to 1000 years, until in a single night the entire populations was killed, and the city left a ruin. That occured 500 years before the present date.

In Worlds Apart, we see Anara during its final days under the reign of its last king, Aydentari. His younger sister, Rinnaya, is a princess who is beloved by her people, yet who is notorious for getting into mischief. Her best friend is a young man who serves in the temple of Iliaye, Riordan, and she has secretly been travelling through a tunnel in the mountains to Bywyn to visit a sick man by the man of Darten. During this time, the swamps around the shores of Erinesse and Lorgate have been caused sickness to spread through the lowlands of Lanthore, and many people have sort dryer conditions in mountanous towns like Bywyn.

Rinnaya finds herself at the centre of a plot to destroy not only her kingdom, but the rest of Lanthore as well. Charged with a task from Iliaye himself, she is left with no other choice but to race against the clock to stop the threat of Imori.

Shiribra

In the beginning, there was only one landmass in the entire world. During a great upheaval, this landmass was broken up, and whilst four pieces drifted across the world to eventually form Lanthore, the central piece remained in its original location, and this became Shiribra. This land was discovered by two immortal brothers who had been exiled from their own world, and together Iliaye and Imori (Light and Darkness) set about forming their own kingdom.

Their attraction to mortal women soon brought about the people who would be known as the "Mortal Bred Gods": half breeds who were immortal and possessed considerable powers. The three most well known gods (and not always well known for good reasons) were Adrynnynn, Naiajaga and Vynartari. They were the three most unlikely of friends, and yet their friendship lasted close to two thousand years.

In the timeline of the story, the events of Shiribra occured between 3500 to 1500 years before the present date, and is where the entire story starts.
